LA Galaxy II vs. Orange County Soccer Club
2017 USL Regular Season (Week Twenty)
The StubHub Center, Carson, CA
Wednesday, August 2 – 7pm PST
The I-405 Derby
Irvine, Calif. (July 5, 2017) This will be the third meeting of the season between Orange County SC and LA Galaxy II and the second time the Orange County SC will travel to the StubHub Center for the match. In the last meeting, OCSC found success at home defeating the visitors 4-0 at the Great Park. In their last trip up the 405, Orange County SC played LA Galaxy II to a draw. The two teams should be very familiar with one another and well prepared to compete against the personnel in the midweek fixture.
Orange County SC will look to bring their previous strong defensive showings on the road in LA. Especially with tensions running high in a rivalry match, defensive focus will prove vital. An early goal will calm the team’s nerves for the remainder of the contest and OCSC have yet to lose a match when scoring the first goal. Finding that all important first goal will set the tone for what lays ahead. Against Vancouver FC2 it was an early goal for OCSC that proved to be the game winner. Midfielder Victor Pineda opened the scoring in the 10th minute knocking home a rebound from close range. The rebound came off the Salomon Wbias’ initial header from the corner kick which was saved by keeper Spencer Richey. Vancouver FC2 possessed their way back into the game creating multiple chances but could not convert on any of them. Orange County SC played much of the contest on the counter and stuck to their defensive tasks as Vancouver FC2 sought after an equalizing goal.
Goal keeper Charlie Lyon will be pleased with the string of clean sheets his team is amassing. Another clean sheet will guarantee the OCSC at least a share of the points in LA. The team will be looking for more victories because this is the second match of a thick stretch of games in a short period of time. The game versus the LA Galaxy II will be the second of seven over a 21 day period for an average of a game every three days. Although OCSC has a few games in hand, they will evaporate quickly and points to remain in playoff contention are necessary.
