IRVINE, Calif. (June 28, 2018) – Orange County SC heads to Arizona Friday, June 29 as the club takes on Didier Drogba and Phoenix Rising FC at 7:30PM PT at Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex. The matchup will be the second and final meeting between the two teams this regular season. Both teams are looking to take the three points, with each of the previous four meetings between the teams resulting in a draw.
Orange County SC heads into Friday’s match coming off of a club record-tying six goal victory over Tulsa Roughnecks FC. All six goals were scored by six different players. The first came in the 16th minute, when Jos Hooiveld headed the ball into the top corner of the net following a corner taken by Aodhan Quinn. In the 37th minute, Quinn delivered a clinical pass to Thomas Enevoldsen who detonated a shot to the back of the net to record his 9th USL goal of the season. Enevoldsen’s goal secured a tie for the lead of the USL Golden Boot award. Shortly into the second half, Jon Bakero brought home a goal for the Roughnecks when he capitalized on a failed clearance by finishing from close range. Orange County SC’s third goal of the night came when Jos Hooieveld’s shot deflected off of the top of the crossbar, setting up a Alex Crognale header from close range. In the 65th minute, Tulsa's Adrian Jusino fouled Christian Duke in the penalty area. This led to the fourth goal of the night, as Aodhan Quinn converted the penalty at the bottom right corner of the net. In the 86th minute, Duke executed a perfect pass to Amirgy Pineda who fired a shot to the bottom of the left corner to record his first professional goal. Four minutes later, Enevoldsen sent a cross to Mats Bjurman who finished at close range to score his first goal of the season.

The last match between Orange County SC and Phoenix Rising FC ended in a 1 – 1 draw–the third time in four matches between the two clubs in which a match was decided on a last-minute equalizer–during Orange County SC’s home opener at Championship Soccer Stadium on March 17th. The first goal of the night on March 17th was scored by Phoenix in the 11th minute, with Billy Forbes' cross to a charging Solomon Asante. From that moment on, Orange County SC controlled possession yet was unable to profit from its chances until the last minute. The equalizer came in the 90th minute, when Alex Crognale capitalized off of a deflected ball from Phoenix’s keeper, Carl Wosczczynski. Crognale squared up and fired a precise shot to the bottom right of the net.
Following Friday’s match against Phoenix Rising FC, Orange County SC will head to Colorado Springs to take on the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Tuesday, July 3 at 6:00PM PT. The squad returns home to host LA Galaxy II on Saturday, July 7 at 7:00PM PT at Championship Soccer Stadium for the 2018 regular season finale of the USL's version of the "405 Derby".
