IRVINE, Calif. – Orange County SC will close out the 2018 USL regular season, one that has seen the club break franchise records for wins and points, when they face Reno 1868 FC on the final weekend of the regular season.
Last Saturday, OCSC came away with a big 2-1 win in their home finale over Seattle Sounders FC 2 to keep their win streak alive at 6 games entering the final weekend. Before the match, OCSC captain, Richard Chaplow announced he will retire when this season ends.
Reno 1868 FC will enter the match from a big 0-0 draw on the road vs. Phoenix Rising FC. They were outshot 26-8 and goalkeeper Matt Bersano made four big saves on the night.
The club is led in scoring by Brian Brown, who has 16 goals on the season. Antoine Hoppenot has added 13 assists, tied for 2nd in the USL with OC’s Aodhan Quinn.
In the previous June meeting between the sides, it was a 2-2 draw when they went head to head in Southern California. Forward Thomas Enevoldsen and defender Thomas Juel-Nielsen scored the two second-half goals for Orange County.
With their win last weekend, Orange County has already clinched at least a top-two seed in the Western Conference bracket heading into the 2018 USL Cup Playoffs. OC’s match vs. Reno 1868 FC will kick off at 6 PM Pacific Time from Greater Nevada Field.
With Phoenix Rising FC being outlasted by Las Vegas FC on Wednesday night in Arizona 5-2, OC can lock down the top seed in the Conference with a win or a tie or a Phoenix tie or loss on Saturday night. OC’s match vs. Reno 1868 FC will kick off at 6 PM Pacific Time from Greater Nevada Field while Phoenix kick-off at 7:30 PM Pacific Time vs. T2 in Portland.
