Orange County SC traveled to Oakland looking to build on its strong road form and return to the win column, putting together a strong performance but ultimately having to settle for a 1-1 draw and a point on the road.
The opening 20 minutes were evenly contested, with both sides feeling each other out in a back-and-forth start that produced few clear-cut scoring opportunities.
Oakland broke the deadlock when Florian Valot struck from outside the box, sending his effort past goalkeeper Alex Rando and into the upper-left corner to give the hosts the lead.
In the 35’ minute, Ousmane Sylla fired a shot on goal that was deflected into the path of Lyam MacKinnon, who put the ball into the back of the net. The goal was disallowed for offside, although video replay showed MacKinnon was onside when Sylla struck the initial shot.
OCSC continued to push for an equalizer throughout the remainder of the first half but was unable to find the breakthrough. After one minute of stoppage time, Oakland Roots took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Orange County found the equalizer in the 59’ minute off a corner kick delivered by Stephen Kelly. After the service bounced around inside the box, Lyam MacKinnon’s effort was parried away by Oakland goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh, but Yaniv Bazini was first to the loose ball and fired it into the back of the net to level the match at 1-1.
With the match level at 1-1, both sides traded opportunities in an increasingly open contest. Oakland looked to Peter Wilson in search of the go-ahead goal, while Orange County created a dangerous opportunity of its own when Yaniv Bazini narrowly missed a chance inside the box.
Orange County continued to press for a winner in the closing minutes and was on the attack when the final whistle sounded. Unable to find the decisive second goal, OCSC will return home from Oakland with a point following the 1-1 draw and turn its attention to the next match.
