Do you miss competing at the highest level? OCSC is bringing players with professional aspirations from Orange County, surrounding areas, and around the globe to Great Park. These tryouts also consist of a variety of age groups, as players from 16 to 28 years old participate. Take this exclusive opportunity to see where you stand amongst professional talent.

All participants are evaluated by our player recruitment and coaching staff, including head coach Braeden Cloutier, assistant general manager Peter Nugent, and president of soccer operations Oliver Wyss. As a collective group, this OCSC coaching staff won the 2015 & 2018 USL Western Conference Regular Season, reached the Western Conference Semifinals in back-to-back seasons, and reached the Western Conference Finals in 2018.

Every year at least one player gets invited to Orange County SC’s spring training camp. Players under 20 years old who aren’t quite ready for USL Championship play, but who make an impression on the coaching staff, may be invited to train with the OCSC Academy team (U14-U19). Academy players have the opportunity to train with Orange County SC’s first team throughout the season.

Sports, alongside many other businesses, sustained immense economic and financial pressure due to abrupt changes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here at Orange County, like so many other teams and leagues, we worked tirelessly to adapt and comply to a constantly changing environment, patiently waiting for the coveted return of live spectatorship at sporting events. Although many questions about our upcoming season remain unanswered and the current focus has shifted to player and supporter safety, there is no better time to partner with your local sport organization. We reached out to all existing sponsors as soon as the world started changing, not to see how we could keep all the sponsorship dollars at whatever cost, but to understand the impacts on them and work out ways to keep the partnerships mutually beneficial. We were flexible in our approach, changing physical assets into digital ones and working to make sure we understood our partner’s priorities in a changing world.

Orange County is among the nation’s largest club soccer markets and a focal point for youth soccer, especially women’s soccer. In the Orange County area alone there are upwards of 40 AYSO regions, over 20 competitive clubs, and the majority of the players are female. 

Two-time FIFA World Cup champions Julie Foudy and Amy Rodriguez both hail from the OC. Foudy, who was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame along with her teammate Mia Hamm in 2007, played her high school soccer at Mission Viejo High School in Orange County. Amy Rodriguez grew up in Lake Forest and went to Santa Margarita High School. Many more of the world’s top women’s players come from Southern California and train in OC during the offseason.

Foudy, who was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame along with her teammate Mia Hamm in 2007, played her high school soccer at Mission Viejo High School in Orange County. Amy Rodriguez grew up in Lake Forest and went to Santa Margarita High School. Many more of the world’s top women’s players come from Southern California and train in OC during the offseason.

Women’s soccer is a fundamental part of Orange County Soccer Club’s history and DNA. Before becoming the Orange County Blues in 2013 and then rebranding as the Orange County Soccer Club in 2017 under new ownership, the club was originally named the LA Blues. The LA Blues had a professional sister club under the same ownership, called the Pali Blues.

The Pali Blues played in the USL W-League from 2008-2014 and remained the most successful USL W-League club ever, with four championships and five western conference titles in only seven seasons.

Damus, age 21, had five goals and two assists in 13 appearances for North Texas SC in USL League One during the shortened 2020 season, his second year with the club. In his first season, Damus averaged a goal every 97.3 minutes. The striker scored 16 goals in 20 regular-season matches, and subsequently won the 2019 USL League One Golden Boot. Damus was also ranked number one on the 2019 USL 20 Under 20 list. 
 
Before signing with North Texas SC in January of 2019, Damus joined the FC Dallas U-19 Academy team halfway through the 2017-2018 season, where he scored 12 goals in 13 matches. 
 
At 21, Damus is an established Haitian international player who made his senior debut at 16-years-old when he started against Costa Rica in a 2016 World Cup Qualifier. Prior to his call up to the senior team, he was regularly featured on Haiti’s U-20 national squad having made eight appearances.

“I’m very excited that we have come to terms with Patrick. He is a very solid and stable goalkeeper that has played at the highest level in Germany,” said OCSC Head Coach, Braeden Cloutier. “He will bring leadership and professionalism to an already experienced back four.” 

Rakovsky also played with the German National team starting at a young age, from the U-15 to the U-20 level. As a U-19 in 2012, Rakovsky was awarded the Fritz Walter Medal by the German Football Administration. This award is given annually to the best German Youth National players. 

Patrick Rakovsky is a player that will bring substantial experience and leadership to Orange County SC in the 2021 season.

Irvine, CA (Thursday, December 17, 2020) – Orange County SC announced today that the club has signed midfielder Mikko Kuningas, pending league and federation approval. Kuningas is the third new player acquisition announced prior to the 2021 season.

“We are excited to add Mikko, a very talented midfielder to our roster,” said OCSC President of Soccer Operations, Oliver Wyss. “Despite being only 23 years old, Mikko has already played over 130 professional games in the Finnish premier division and his all-around quality will improve our team!”

Kuningas, 23, tallied five goals and four assists for FC Lahti of the Veikkausliiga, Finland’s premier league, during the shortened 2020 season. Kuningas was signed by FC Lahti as a 17-year-old and has now played six seasons in the Veikkausliiga, four with FC Lahti and two with FC Inter Turku, accumulating over 130 appearances, 16 goals, and 19 assists.

Kuningas scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute of the cup final. Kuningas is an excellent creator in the midfield, but also has a knack for finding the back of the net.
