Orange County SC fell just shy of a comeback in a 3-2 loss to Louisville City FC on Saturday night at Championship Stadium. OCSC remains top of the Western Conference for the eighth consecutive week.
Orange County SC opened the match looking to rebound and return to its winning ways, coming out on the front foot and applying sustained pressure against its Eastern Conference opponent. Louisville City FC, however, remained dangerous on the counterattack and capitalized on an early opportunity. In the sixth minute, Ray Serrano found himself one-on-one with Alex Rando and converted to give Louisville an early 1-0 lead.
The Black and Orange settled into the match, slowing the pace and regaining control of possession and the tempo. While OCSC was unable to find an equalizer before the break, Orange County finished the opening 45 minutes with 60% possession and a higher passing accuracy than Louisville City.
Orange County SC continued to press forward in the second half. Louisville found a second goal in the 48’ minute with another shot from Serrano. Despite continuous defensive pressure from the County Boys, Louisville City found one more goal with a strike from Chris Donovan in the 68’ minute.
OCSC began their comeback climb moments later in the 70’ minute as Ousmane Sylla sent a sweeping ball past Hugo Fauroux to the center of the box. Orange County fought harder, winning 23 duels and continuing to intercept Louisville’s passes.
In the 80’ minute, Aiden McFadden fouled Brandon Cambridge in the box and OCSC earned a penalty kick. Yaniv Bazini stepped up to the spot, psyching out Fauroux with a stutter before taking the shot to the center of the net.
The pressure never ceased from the Black & Orange as they took 10 shots in the second half. Despite resilient efforts, Orange County SC was unable to complete the comeback before the whistle was blown.
The County Boys wrapped the match with 63% possession to Louisville City’s 37%, and 13 shots taken with three on net compared to their opposition’s nine shots, four on target.
