Orange County SC lost 5-1 against FC Tulsa in Saturday’s Family Night match at Championship Soccer Stadium.
With OCSC looking to snap back to their winning ways, they started the match with intensity, looking to make a statement. FC Tulsa opened the scoresheet early in the half with an unassisted goal from Arquimides Ordonez in the 4’ minute.
Orange County looked to answer with Ousmane Sylla taking the ball down the field but the attack fell short. Tulsa responded with another goal from Ordonez in the 20’ minute after a misstep in the defense led to a breakaway.
The Black & Orange earned a dangerous free kick in the 28’ minute after Joel Sangwa fouled Nico Benalcazar just outside the box. Benalcazer took the free kick and while the shot was just high off the bar, it gave OCSC the momentum to keep pushing and show FC Tulsa who they were facing.
Orange County continued the pressure, frustrating FC Tulsa into receiving three yellow cards within ten minutes of play. OCSC ended the first half with 54% possession and six shots taken in the first.
The County Boys entered the second half hungry to comeback and turn the tides of the match. Chris Hegardt set the tone in the 47’ minute with a goal that directed off the far left post into the net. Tyson Espy took the assist on the goal and Orange County readied themselves to amp up the pressure.
Despite keeping up a strong possession and searching for scoring opportunities, FC Tulsa were able to eke their way through the match by capitalizing on Orange County’s defensive lapses.
The match ended after six minutes of stoppage time with Orange County falling 5-1 to FC Tulsa. OCSC finished the match with 57% possession, 15 shots taken with two on target, compared to FC Tulsa’s 43% possession, 15 shots taken with ten on target.
Orange County SC will face Oakland Roots SC on the road, then return home on September 5th for a Labor Day Beer Fest and a match against Sacramento Republic FC. For tickets and more information, click HERE.
