IRVINE, Calif. (March 25, 2018) – Coming on the heels of an intense 1-1 draw against Phoenix Rising FC last week, Orange County Soccer Club played host to NorCal rival Sacramento Republic FC. Orange County SC put in a valiant fight, however it was Sacramento Republic who came away with a 1-0 win and the three points.
Orange County SC started the match strong with a counter attack in the 13th minute when forward Michael Seaton caught Sacramento Republic FC goalkeeper Josh Cohen off his line leaving an open goal for Orange County. Seaton sent the cross to midfieder Koji Hashimoto but Sacramento defender Shannon Gomez cleared the shot off the line. Orange County SC would get a second chance to capitalize in the 26th minute when Kontor Owusu-Ansah sent the cross to Seaton who headed the ball from the center of the box narrowly missed the target. Sacramento Republic’s Villyan Bijev would try to capitalize on a corner in the 30th minute but it was lofted high and Orange County SC keeper Andre Rawls would make the save. Midfielder Christian Duke sent a well weighted ball through to Thomas Enevoldsen in the 32nd minute who just missed high and right. The teams would head into the half scoreless.
Although Orange County SC proved dangerous at the start of the second half, the tides would turn in favor of Sacramento. In the 66th minute forward Cameron Iwasa turned peeled back and carved a left footed shot around Orange County SC defender Alex Crognale sending the shot into the back of the net. In the 70th minute, Orange County SC midfielder Christian Duke played it over the top in the direction of Thomas Enevoldsen but Enevoldsen would be called offsides. The 74th minute would bring forward another challenge for Orange County SC when forward Michael Seaton made his run toward the penalty box as Josh Cohen came racing off his line causing the two to collide. Seaton was sent off with a straight red card following the collision causing Orange County to play a man down. Sacramento would hold off the attacking Orange County and capture the three points.
Orange County SC head to Oklahoma for their next two matches. First up, the club will look to take three points against OKC Energy FC at Taft Stadium on Wednesday, March 28 at 5:00 PM (PST). The club will then continue their road trip in a matchup against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday, March 31 at ONEOK Field at 1:00 PM (PST).
