August 20th, 2018 (Irvine, Calif.) – After a brief layoff this past weekend, Orange County SC returns to action on Wednesday night matching up against Portland Timbers 2. The club travels to the Pacific Northwest for the mid-week competition. Kickoff is set for 7 PM Pacific Time at Merlo Field in Portland.
Orange County defeated Las Vegas Lights FC 3-1 last week at Championship Soccer Stadium. After Lights FC took an early lead, and despite losing goalkeeper Andre Rawls to a second half red card, a goal from forward Thomas Enevoldsen and brace from forward Michael Seaton gave Orange County SC its third straight victory.
On Sunday, Timbers 2 defeated rival Seattle Sounders 2 at Merlo Field 4-1. Forward Foster Langsdorf provided two goals, along with one each from midfielder Renzo Zambrano and defender Adrian Diz. The Portland Timbers’ USL affiliate is experiencing a surprising, breakout season. After finishing at the bottom of the USL’s Western Conference last season with 15 total points, Timbers 2 currently occupies 5th place with 42 points. Langsdorf leads the club with 11 goals, and 21-year-old Augustine Williams was voted the USL’s mid-season Young Player of the Year.
Earlier this month, the Orange County and Portland met in Southern California with the match finishing level at 2-2. Timbers 2 took a two-goal lead in the first half, with goals from Marvin Loria and Jack Barmby, but Orange County would battle back to tie things up courtesy of second half strikes from midfielder Aodhan Quinn and Enevoldsen.
