Irvine, CA (June 30, 2021)
Orange County SC announced today the club has signed 17-year-old forward Sean McTague to a USL Pro Academy contract. McTague will join Orange County’s first team for the 2021 campaign, while also spending time in the club’s reserve team Orange County SC II.
“Today’s signing showcases that our pathway to pro is in full effect,” said President of Soccer Operations Oliver Wyss. “Sean is a top local talent that has been developed by our youth soccer network member, West Coast FC and he has already represented Orange County SC at the USL Academy Cup and trained multiple times with our first team.”
McTague, an Orange County native from Mission Viejo, California, is part of the JSerra High School graduating class of 2022 and joins Orange County SC from his youth club West Coast FC.
"I am so grateful for this opportunity, and this is a dream come true for me," said McTague. “I will give my all for Orange County SC and I know this club will maximize my soccer development in all aspects on and off the field.”
“Sean is a very talented young player that I have known and watched for a long time,” said Head Coach Braeden Cloutier. “Sean has earned this opportunity to play on our professional team and he has a very bright future ahead of him.”
McTague played for the Orange County SC’s reserve team in the USL Academy Cup in San Antonio, where he scored multiple impressive goals. McTague was named first-team all-league
and second-team all CIF for the Southern Section in 2020. In 2021 McTague scored 9 goals with 11 assists in 12 games for the JSerra Lions.
McTague is eligible to play against Colorado Springs Switchbacks Thursday night.
