Orange County Soccer Club, a founding member of the USL – the fastest growing second division league in global soccer, have today announced the release of their first official digital collectable collection via NFTs (non-fungible tokens). This first release is the start of a limited series of Genesis Collections for Big Fan, offering benefits for collection holders via experiences, engagement and gifts as time goes on.
As part of the release, Orange County will also become the first soccer team to have an official presence in The Sandbox Metaverse – the fast-growing, decentralized virtual gaming world that has attracted brands & IP such as Atari, The Walking Dead, The Smurfs, Shaun The Sheep, Dogecoin and The South China Post.
The project has been brokered by Halfspace Group and delivered by NFT & Metaverse specialist, Big
Orange County SVP of International Projects Dan Rutstein explained the clubs thinking behind the project, “Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at Orange County Soccer Club so we’re delighted to make this move into the NFT space. It’s an exciting new world out there and we’re keen to offer our existing fans a chance to engage with the team in a whole new way. And we’re also looking forward to welcoming new fans to our community – and hope that these collections will help us tell our story to a new digital audience beyond Orange County”.
The Big Fan team believe the offering of digital collectibles combined with an engaging Metaverse strategy will prove to be one of sports largest opportunities over the coming years.
“We would like to warmly welcome Orange County and its fans to the Big Fan experience,” said Big Fan Founder and CEO, Eugene O’Brien. “As our first official release this project holds a special place in our business and we look forward to generating real growth for Orange County over the coming season. We have been overwhelmed by the response to our offering in the market and are excited to announce more partnerships over the next few months.”
Audience specialists Halfspace will continue to assist in the project beyond the release across data, marketing and commercial consultancy.
