COMING DOWN FROM THE TOWN
Orange County SC welcomes Oakland Roots SC for a Saturday evening match during Fireworks & Fenders Night at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine at 7pm. World class vehicles will be on display prior to kick off and fireworks will follow immediately after the final whistle. OCSC has won every meeting with Oakland all-time.
CRUNCHING NUMBERS
When OCSC beat Oakland on the road at the end of July, OCSC broke a four match winless streak while Oakland was in the middle of a 10 game winless stretch. Since then, OCSC has seen their results go both ways including a change at head coach in mid-August. Regardless, the team still sits in a playoff spot with a 90% chance of securing a berth by the end of the season, according to the latest fivethirtyeight.com projections. Oakland, who at midseason only had a 3% chance, turned their season around and are now above the playoff line.
CERTIFIED HEADER BOY REPRISE
Another game, another OCSC header for a goal this time by forward Ronaldo Damus who nodded in his 13th goal of the season on September 18 at Phoenix Rising FC. Coming off forward Brian Iloski’s perfect aerial cross, Damus’s goal froze the Phoenix goalkeeper as the ball tucked right into the upper left corner. Damus’s equalizing goal was named a finalist for the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week – Week 22.
CATCHING UP WITH OCSC 2
OCSC 2, the club’s reserve team, have been competing in the USL Academy League against other USL reserve squads in the Southwest region of the country. In its first year of existence, the USL Academy League offers senior clubs to more formally develop the top youth prospects in their local area. So far, OCSC 2 has gone 0-3-3 and is inching closer to earning their first win in their next two matches in October.
CAPITÁN ES RECONOCIDO | CAPTAIN GETS RECOGNIZED
As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the USL ranked the top 20 Hispanic players in the USL Championship this season. OCSC defender and captain Michael Orozco came in at number 15 behind his leadership and performance on and off the pitch. Starting in every match, he leads the team with 1,118 passes while adding 32 interceptions, 11 blocks and 49 clearances.
