Orange County SC dropped a 4-0 decision on the road to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, CO on Saturday, June 10 in a match that was mired in controversy.
The first chance for the Black and Orange came in the seventh minute from a familiar source, when forward Milan Iloski tried his luck from distance. His right footed strike was saved comfortably by Switchbacks goalkeeper Christian Herrera.
OCSC goalkeeper Colin Shutler was called into action for the first time in the 15th minute. Switchbacks forward Maalique Foster fired a shot on goal from just outside the 18-yard box and Shutler parried away. The rebound fell to forward Deshane Beckford and Shutler again was there to keep the match level.
Orange County SC appeared to score the game’s opening goal in the 16th minute. Defender Owen Lambe played a cross into the box that was claimed at first by Herrera, but he ended up dropping the ball at the feet of forward Thomas Amang, who put the ball in the back of the net. Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed for a foul.
Colorado Springs capitalized not going down a goal, when a switch of play found midfielder Drew Skundrich at the top of the box and he fired the home side in front 1-0 in the 28th minute.
Orange County SC nearly found the equalizer in the 41st minute when midfielder Brian Iloski made a darting run down the right side of the pitch, cut inside on his left foot and fired a shot that hit the outside of the post and out of play.
Colorado Springs struck first in the second half, when forward Romario Williams finished off a chance in close and the Switchbacks led 2-0 after the 60th minute.
The visitors doubled their lead with goals in quick succession, after Jairo Enriquez converted a controversial penalty in the 70th minute and Marco Rios added a fourth in the 74th minute.
OCSC will be back in action next weekend at FC Tulsa on Saturday, June 17 at 6:00 PM. They will return to The Champ on Saturday, July 1 at 7:00 PM vs. Monterey Bay FC for our 10th Anniversary celebration match. Grab your tickets here.
