Our fans and our community is what makes Orange County Soccer Club the vibrant team that it is. We wanted to create something special this year for Hispanic Heritage Month and to celebrate the diversity of our community. So we partnered with Eric 'Leno' Rubio, an OC-born artist, who was raised in Santa Ana and Tustin to create something special.
Born into a soccer family, we wanted Leno to take our logo and do something special for it – to be worn with pride by fans on the terraces but also by the players on the field.
"Skulls and Mexica influenced art are some of my favorite things to draw," said Leno.
"When I was approached with the opportunity to design this, I knew exactly what I wanted to create. I decided to use the center of the Aztec sun stone (Tonatiuh) as my reference. I added a sugar skull to incorporate the team's logo along with some other imagery. My style is influenced by so many things, hopefully, some of those influences pop out to those seeing this design."
As well as appearing on hats, t-shirts, hoodies, and stickers, the new logo will be worn by the players themselves. On October 13th, for a game against divisional winners Pheonix Rising and to mark Fiesta de Futbol, Orange County Soccer Club will be wearing a one-off commemorative jersey – a Colores kit.
And the new skull logo will be proudly on display on their sleeves. So get down to Championship Soccer Stadium!
