Orange County SC kicks off the second half of the season on the road in Edinburg, TX when they square off with Rio Grande Valley FC Toros on Saturday, July 8 at 5:00 PM PST. The Black and Orange look to continue to fight back into the playoff picture in the Western Conference and continue their stretch of three straight wins.

A SECOND RUN WITH THE BULLS

Rio Grande Valley FC Toros enter tomorrow’s match in 11th place in the USL Championship’s Western Conference, two points behind the Black and Orange. After a 2-0 defeat at Championship Stadium on June 3rd, the Toros have gone unbeaten in their last five matches (2-0-3). They have had a knack of stealing points late across that stretch of games, with equalizers coming in the 97th, 86th, and 96th minute of each of their three draws respectively. Forward Wilmer Cabrera Jr. is one of the five USL Championship Player of the Month nominees for June, presented by Konami eFootball, after scoring four goals last month.

SETTING THE GOLD STANDARD

Orange County SC debuted their new third kit, celebrated their 10th Anniversary and recorded their first come from behind victory of the 2023 season in a 3-1 triumph over now 5th place Monterey Bay FC last Saturday. A first USL Championship goal from defender Owen Lambe and two more from forward Thomas Amang sealed all three points for the Black and Orange and both Amang and Lambe spots on the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 17. After a stellar June, forward Milan Iloski has been nominated for the Konami eFootball USL Championship Player of the Month for June, after scoring three goals, averaging a goal every 118 minutes, as well as creating seven chances and tallying one assist. Iloski scored the first goal in the 2-0 win over RGVFC at home on June 3 and forward Korede Osundina added the insurance goal. OCSC have now won three straight over RGVFC, including a 2-1 decision the last time the two sides met at H-E-B Park.

THOMAS AMANG RECORDS FIRST BRACE FOR ORANGE COUNTY, AS OCSC DEFEATS MONTEREY BAY 3-1

Orange County SC won their third consecutive match on Saturday, July 1 as they defeated Monterey Bay FC 3-1 in front of a sold out crowd at Championship Stadium for their 10th Anniversary celebration.

The game began quickly, as forward Marc “Sparky” McNulty nearly had a goal in the eighth minute, but his shot just drifted wide of the left side of goal.

OCSC had their first shot on target of the night in the ninth minute, when Sparky played forward Brian Iloski into the box, but the elder Iloski’s shot was saved by Monterey Bay goalkeeper Antony Siaha.

Entering the 35th minute, Hugh Roberts III scored Monterey’s first goal with a header following a corner, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The Black and Orange had a few more chances to level the match going into halftime, but Monterey Bay was able to hold onto the lead going into halftime.

As the teams came out for the second half, goalkeeper Colin Shutler made his first save of the night in the 53rd minute, when he kept out a right-footed shot from MBFC midfielder Sam Gleadle near the top of the box.

Orange County SC finally broke through Monterey’s defense in the 70th minute. Sparky played a ball over the top for substitute forward Thomas Amang, who then beat Siaha with a cheeky finish just minutes after being subbed on. The two sides were level with just under 20 minutes to go.

Defender Owen Lambe put Orange County in the lead for the first time in the 78th minute. Substitute Ashish Chattha played a ball into the box for Lambe, who calmly collected the ball and rifled a shot that squeezed through Siaha. It is Lambe’s first goal for the club and OCSC led 2-1.

The Black and Orange claimed all three points when Amang scored his second goal of the night on a penalty kick in the first minute of injury time, resulting in a final score of 3-1.

CRISP DEFENSE POWERS THE VISITORS

Monterey Bay FC sits in 3rd place in the USL Championship’s Western Conference. The Crisp and Kelp of MBFC share something in common with the Black and Orange, as they are the only two teams to have taken all three points from Western Conference leaders, Sacramento Republic FC. They have three clean sheets in five matches and have won four matches in a row (4-0-1). Forward Alex Dixon leads the side in goals this year with eight and his attack partner Christian Volesky is right behind him with seven. BLACK AND ORANGE BACKLINE BRINGING THE HEAT

Orange County SC recorded their first back-to-back victory of the season after their 1-0 win against Detroit City FC last Saturday. Forward Milan Iloski scored his seventh goal of the season with a towering header. Iloski now finds himself in third place in the USL Championship Golden Boot Race, just two behind the league leaders. Goalkeeper Colin Shutler kept his fourth clean sheet in five matches, making six saves against DCFC at Keyworth Stadium, including a USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week nominee. Shutler’s strong play of late has been one of the catalysts to OCSC’s resurgence over the last month.

COLIN SHUTLER EARNS ANOTHER CLEAN SHEET, AS OCSC DEFEATS DETROIT 1-0 ON THE ROAD

Orange County SC earned a hard fought 1-0 victory on the road against Detroit City FC at Keyworth Stadium in Detroit, MI on Saturday, July 24. A goal from forward Milan Iloski was enough to separate the two sides and goalkeeper Colin Shutler earned his fifth clean sheet of the season.

Things nearly got off to a lightning fast start for the visitors as forward Marc “Sparky” McNulty received the ball from a throw-in near the top of the box, turned towards goal and fired a curler towards the back post that just went wide.

Midfielder Dillon Powers almost put himself in USL Championship Goal of the Week contention later on in the 13th minute. Defender Owen Lambe played a corner kick into the box and Powers lined up an audacious bicycle kick that just missed high over the bar, and the sides remained level.

The Black and Orange broke through in the 23rd minute, after a failed clearance from the Detroit backline was skied into the box and DCFC goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher did not come out to claim the ball. Forward Milan Iloski made him pay, rising up high for the header and tucked it into the back post for his seventh goal of the season, and Orange County had the crucial first goal of the match and led 1-0.

Sparky McNulty nearly doubled the lead for the Black and Orange in the 42nd minute, with one of the more insane plays of the season. After he forced a turnover off a throw-in near midfield, Sparky noticed Steinwascher out of his net and fired away from just inside midfield and his strike beat the goalkeeper, but just rang off the top corner and the two sides went into halftime with OCSC leading 1-0.

After not allowing a shot on target in the first half, goalkeeper Colin Shutler was first called into action in the 47th minute when he made a big save at full stretch to keep out a half volley chance from forward Ben Morris that seemed destined for the top corner.

Orange County SC had their biggest chance of the second half in the 56th minute, when Milan Iloski rounded the keeper on the left side, but the angle was unfavorable for a shot. He waited for the runners to enter the box, found his brother Brian Iloski who hit a shot to the bottom left corner that beat Steinwascher, but was cleared off the line by captain Stephen Carroll.

Shutler once again kept Detroit off the scoreboard in the 62nd minute. Detroit worked the ball in close and the ball fell to DCFC forward Skage Simonsen. Simonsen was in one on one with Shutler near the six-yard-box, but Shutler stopped the Norwegian’s effort.

The Black and Orange fended off Le Rouge’s attack at the end of the match, and earned themselves their first back-to-back victory of the season, defeating Detroit City FC 1-0.

Orange County SC goes on the last leg of their three game road trip on Saturday, June 24 as they take on Detroit City FC in the Motor City at 4:30 PM PST. This is the Black and Orange’s first trip to Keyworth Stadium and their first ever matchup with Le Rouge.

LE ROUGE RECENTLY RUNNING RAMPANT

Detroit City FC currently sits in 9th place in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference. After stumbling out of the gate, 1-6-1 in their first eight and being shutout in seven of those matches, they have started to string together results bringing them back into the playoff conversation. Of their 16 points earned this season, 11 of them have been earned in their past five matches (2-0-3). During that stretch, they have shut out their opponents four times. DCFC forward Ben Morris has been the catalyst for the side of late, tallying two goals and an assist in their 3-1 victory over Hartford Athletic last Wednesday, earning him a spot on the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 15.

LOOKING TO BREAK ANOTHER STREAK

Orange County SC got back in the win column with a 3-0 victory at ONEOK Field over FC Tulsa last Saturday. A Goal of the Week nomination from defender Markus Nakkim and goals from forwards Thomas Amang and Milan Iloski secured all three points away from The Champ. It was the Black and Orange’s first win on the road of the season, and it came after massive travel delays and severe weather warnings in Oklahoma. The boys have returned home and now head to the Motor City looking to end another streak, in what would be their first set of back wins for the first time since 2021. A key to the match for the Black and Orange? The first goal. Detroit’s defense has only allowed 14 goals this season, less than one goal per match, but they have yet to earn points when allowing the game’s first goal.

ORANGE COUNTY SC EARN FIRST ROAD VICTORY OF THE SEASON IN 3-0 WIN AT TULSA

Orange County SC earned their first road victory of the 2023 season in a dominant 3-0 win against FC Tulsa at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, OK on Saturday, June 17. Goals from forwards Thomas Amang, Milan Iloski and defender Markus Nakkim and a third shutout in four matches for goalkeeper Colin Shutler secured all three points for the Black and Orange.

OCSC began the match with the game’s first chance in the opening minutes off an Owen Lambe corner kick. The defender whipped the ball into the box and Nakkim rose highest to meet it, but his header went over the bar.

Shutler was called into action for the first time in the 13th minute, after a turnover sent FC Tulsa forward Marcus Epps in on goal with a good opportunity to Shutler’s left. Shutler saved Epps’ right-footed effort and the ball was then cleared away from further danger.

In the 27th minute, midfielder Kyle Scott dribbled into the box on the right side and played a ball back into the middle for Iloski. He then collected the ball on his left foot, cut back onto his right and fired a shot past goalkeeper Michael Nelson to send the Black and Orange in front, 1-0.

The Black and Orange had a chance to double their lead in the 35th minute when forward Marc “Sparky” McNulty pounced on a backpass and was in on goal, but Nelson was able to keep the Scottish striker’s shot out.

OCSC won a penalty through Iloski in the 38th minute and again had a chance to add to their lead. Iloski took a slow run up, trying to get Nelson to commit before hitting his penalty, but Nelson stood his ground and saved the penalty. The scoreline remained 1-0 going into the break.

FC Tulsa had the first true opportunity of the second half in the 64th minute, when midfielder Blaine Ferri found forward Moses Dyer at the top of the 18-yard-box. Dyer dribbled left and fired a shot across his body that seemed destined for the top right corner, but Shutler made a save at full extension to preserve the lead for OCSC.

The Black and Orange had two successive chances in the 67th minute when midfielder Brian Iloski found his brother Milan in the middle of the pitch and Milan unleashed a rocket from long distance that rang off the post.

OCSC kept possession and Brian played a ball over the top again for Milan, who was in on goal with substitute forward Thomas Amang. Milan laid it off for Amang who had his shot in close saved by Nelson.

Defender Markus Nakkim put the nail in the coffin in the 90th minute, when he struck a free kick from over 20 yards over the wall and into the bottom corner to extend the OCSC lead to 2-0 heading into stoppage time.

Amang added the cherry on top with a penalty kick fired into the roof of the net in the 96th minute to make it 3-0 and secure all three points for the Black and Orange.

OCSC will be back in action on the road again next weekend when they face Detroit City FC on Saturday, June 24 at 4:30 PM. They will return to The Champ on Saturday, July 1 at 7:00 PM vs. Monterey Bay FC for our 10th Anniversary celebration match. Grab your tickets here!

Orange County SC continue their road trip on Saturday, June 17th when they duel with FC Tulsa at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, OK at 6:00 PM. The Black and Orange have another chance to reverse their road fortunes after an unfortunate result on the road last Saturday.

FC Tulsa currently sits in 8th place in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference. They are currently hanging on to the last playoff spot in the East, thanks to their ability to grind out results. They, ironically, are tied for first in the USL Championship in draws this season, with seven. They have recently made some new additions in hopes to get over the line, bringing in forward Phillip Goodrum from Memphis 901 FC and former OCSC midfielder Tommy McCabe, who most recently played for Detroit City FC. Both of the new additions are in line to make their home debuts on Saturday.

STRUGGLING TO STRING TOGETHER RESULTS

After a 2-0 victory continued a stretch of games in which they allowed one goal in four games that appeared to be putting the season back on the right track, Orange County SC were defeated 4-0 last time out in Colorado Springs. This also continues another trend, as the Black and Orange have not won two games in a row since their stretch of four straight to end the 2021 regular season, en route to the title. What is a positive streak for the Black and Orange you ask? They have enjoyed a good deal of success in this matchup in recent memory, winning four out of the last five matches and have outscored FC Tulsa 20-7 in that stretch. They have also won both of the most recent matchups at ONEOK Field by a combined 6-0 scoreline.

The two sides advancing to the 2023 Corporate Cup Final will play in Championship Stadium on Wednesday, October 4 following OCSC’s match with Oakland Roots SC in a full 11-on-11 match under the lights! Orange County SC heads out of town for the first of three straight matches on the road, first stopping in the Rockies for a matchup with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. After ending a goal scoring drought last week, the Black and Orange look to end their road woes cruising north of 6,000 feet at Weidner Field.

AVALANCHING DOWN THE STANDINGS

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC enter Saturday’s match in 7th place in the USL Championship Western Conference, hanging on to life above the playoff line. After a hot 5-2-1 start to the season, the Switchbacks have lost their last five straight matches, all by just one goal. They are currently feeling the void left by former forward Hadji Barry, the former USL Championship golden boot winner is now with Future FC in the Egyptian Premier League. Forward Romario Williams now leads the side in goals with four.

MOMENTUM INTO RESULTS

Orange County SC leaves Championship Stadium after a 2-0 victory over Rio Grande Valley FC Toros last Saturday. The Black and Orange backline produced their third clean sheet in four games, led once again by the pairing of Markus Nakkim and Dillon Powers in the center of the park. First half goals from forwards Milan Iloski and Korede Osundina powered OCSC to all three points, and just their second match this year in which they scored multiple goals. After changing their clean sheet and goal scoring fortunes, OCSC will look to reverse the road curse up a mile high in Colorado Springs.

ORANGE COUNTY DUO STANDOUT AFTER WEEK 13 PERFORMANCE

After a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win against RGV, forward Milan Iloski was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 13! It is Iloski’s second feature of the season, after being named to the USL-C TotW six times last season (2x Player of the Week, 1x Player of the Month). After a stellar performance filling in defense, midfielder Dillon Powers was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week bench after going a perfect 6/6 in ground duels and 2/2 in successful dribbles, while also compiling two blocks, two interceptions and 12 recoveries. Sounds like he should’ve made the team if you ask me…

ORANGE COUNTY SC RETURNS TO WINNING WAYS IN 2-0 VICTORY OVER RGVFC

Orange County SC defeated Rio Grande Valley FC 2-0 behind first-half goals from forwards Milan Iloski and Korede Osundina on Saturday, June 3 at Championship Stadium in Irvine, CA. This is OCSC’s third clean sheet in four matches.

The Black and Orange struck first in the fourth minute, after midfielder Kyle Scott forced a turnover on the press and played a touch pass to forward Milan Iloski. In 1-on-1 with RGV goalkeeper Carlos Merancio, Iloski made no mistake with the right foot, and OCSC led 1-0 early.

OCSC didn’t lay off the gas, as midfielder Danny Pederson led the charge in the 16th minute putting a through ball to Iloski. Iloski played a beautiful backheel pass to Osundina, who beat Merancio with his right foot, extending the OCSC advantage to 2-0.

The Orange County SC defense held strong in the first half, only allowing one shot on target, taking a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Out of the break, it was RGV who applied the pressure getting their first real opportunity of the night in the 52nd minute. Midfielder Robert Coronado found defender Juan Cabezas, whose right footed shot from outside the box was saved by OCSC goalkeeper Colin Shutler, his second save of the night.

OCSC had their first chance of the second half in the 61st minute as Iloski delivered a ball to substitute forward Bryce Jamison, whose right footed shot was saved by the keeper.

RGV had another chance in the 62nd minute as midfielder Wilmer Cabrera’s right footed free kick shot from outside the box was saved in the bottom left corner by OCSC goalkeeper Colin Shutler.

OCSC continued to apply pressure in the 74th minute as a run from substitute forward Thomas Amang broke into the box finding a sprinting Iloski, whose right footed shot from the left side of the box was saved by Merancio.

The Black and Orange held off one final push from RGV, securing all three points at The Champ in a 2-0 victory.

OCSC will be back in action next weekend at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday, June 10, where they will start a three game road trip, before heading back to The Champ on Saturday, July 1 at 7:00 PM vs. Monterey Bay FC. Grab your tickets here!
